Frequently Asked Questions

How many batts of insulation do I need?

Divide your total insulation area by the coverage per pack (typically 40-100 sq ft depending on R-value). Add 10% for waste from cuts around outlets, windows, and corners.

What size batts do I need for 2x4 walls?

For 2x4 walls with 16-inch on-center studs, use 15-inch wide R-13 or R-15 batts. For 24-inch on-center spacing, use 23-inch wide batts.

Should I use faced or unfaced batts?

Use faced batts (with vapor barrier) when insulating exterior walls with no existing vapor barrier. Use unfaced batts when adding to existing insulation or when a separate vapor barrier is installed.
